Morphy Richards was established in 1936 by Donal Morphy and Charles Richards with the aim of manufacturing affordable household appliances for the mass market. It became a public company in 1947, and initially focused on producing radiant fires and domestic irons. In 1954, Morphy Richards introduced the first steam iron.

In the 1960s, Morphy Richards began to manufacture larger domestic items such as fridge freezers and vacuum cleaners. By the 1990s, its range had expanded to include other products such as kettles, sandwich toasters and coffee makers.
